Introducing Angklung to Chiba University’s Students Japan

Students with the instructor of Angklung, Mr. Sopian (sitting third from the left).

As a series of visits by FMNS Chiba University Japan to UPI, on Tuesday 5 March 2024 a group of students from Chiba University tried out traditional musical instruments from Bandung Indonesia. Today’s activity is to introduce one of Indonesian culture, namely Angklung, to FMNS Chiba University students. The participants were very enthusiastic about taking part in the activities held in the FPMIPA UPI smart classroom. Angklung is a traditional Indonesian musical instrument made from bamboo and played by shaking it to produce notes and sounds. The participants were taught how to hold the angklung and how to sound it correctly.

Amazingly, with instructions from Isola Elementary School Angklung’s coach Mr Sopian, the strains of the song Can’t Help Falling In Love from Elvis Presley were successfully presented very beautifully in such a short practice time. It didn’t stop there, when the second song was taught by the instructor, Itsumo Nando Demo which is an OST from a Japanese anime, the participants were very happy because the song was very familiar to them and were amazed that the song could be presented using Angklung. In the end, the introductory session and the Angklung game were finished with very high enthusiasm from the participants. A total of 2 songs were sung by the student group very beautifully. Even though they only have a little time. Hopefully this activity will get a good impression as a cultural exchange between Indonesia and Japan. (AMCA)
